About the Role

We’re looking for a Student Welder to join our team and help take Southland Trailers to the next level. In this role, you’ll be part of a dynamic team that works together to drive innovation, quality, and success. If you’re a self-starter who loves challenges, we want to hear from you!

What We’re Looking For

  • Currently enrolled in high school (Grade 10, 11, or 12) and participating in, or interested in, a welding course.
  • Eager to learn and develop welding skills in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
  • Interest in pursuing a welding apprenticeship and obtaining a valid blue book.
  • Willingness to follow 5S and LEAN manufacturing principles (training provided).
  • Basic mechanical skills and the ability to safely use hand and power tools (training provided).
  • Physical ability to lift, push, pull, and position materials weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to understand simple written instructions and perform basic math calculations.
  • Strong communication skills and a positive attitude for working with team members and supervisors.

What You’ll Do

  • Start your day with an early morning team huddle/stretch to get ready for the work ahead.
  • Learn how to prepare materials and equipment for welding projects.
  • Assist with simple welding tasks under the guidance of experienced team members.
  • Practice safe use of hand and power tools (such as grinders, drills, and plasma cutters) with supervision.
  • Help measure and check materials to ensure they meet project requirements.
  • Learn to examine welds and understand what good quality looks like.
  • Work in different positions (bend, squat, kneel, and stand) while helping with welding and fabrication tasks.
  • Keep your work area clean and organized by following daily 5S housekeeping practices.
  • Follow instructions and standard operating procedures to ensure safe, consistent results.
  • Communicate with your supervisor or mentor if you notice an issue or have a question.
  • Take part in on-the-job training to improve your welding skills and knowledge.
  • Support your team by assisting wherever needed to keep production moving smoothly.
